Good questions, straight answers
Your Questions, Answered
How do I pay?
Whatever suits, card or transfer, and only after the job's finished and you've had a look at it. Since you signed off on the price at the start, there's nothing left to haggle over at the end.
What does "$65 off your first service" cover?
The discount lands on the first bill you get from us, no matter how large or small the work was. You don't need to spend a set amount to qualify, and there's no sign-up attached.
How does your pricing work for drain jobs?
We don't charge by the hour. You get one price for the whole job, settled before a tool comes out of the van, and three things mainly shape it: how far down the trouble sits, how hard the line is to reach, and whether we're clearing it or mending it.
Can the price change once you start?
No. Whatever you agree to at the start is what gets billed at the end, set after an inspection rather than guessed at over the phone. Should the drain hide something none of us expected, everything pauses and we explain it before carrying on.
Who actually turns up?
The same small crew every time, with the owner working jobs himself rather than sending strangers. Drains and sewers are one plumber's specialty here, so a stubborn blockage ends up with the person who handles them all week.
Can I clear a blocked drain myself?
Give the plunger one honest go on a sink or pan that's just sluggish. Steer clear of supermarket drain chemicals and hired eels though, since both do real harm to old pipe. If the same drain blocks a second time, the cause sits further down the line. That wants a licensed plumber with a camera, not another round of guessing.
Is your work guaranteed?
Yes, quality workmanship guaranteed. We run water through the line and watch it clear before packing up, so any problem shows itself while we're still standing there rather than a fortnight later.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, NSW Plumbing Licence #292427C, fully licensed and insured, water and gas. It's displayed here and checkable through the public licensing register.
Are you really open 24 hours?
Yes, a real person answers the phone day or night, not a machine that takes a message. Same-day service is standard for most blocked drains, whatever time you call.
What counts as a drain emergency?
Waste coming back up through a floor drain or shower, an overflowing pan you can't stop, or water sitting over the stormwater grate with nowhere to go. The test we'd apply is simple: if it's escaping indoors, ring now. A sink draining slowly can hold until the morning.
Do you work weekends and public holidays?
Yes, someone picks up on Sundays and public holidays the same as any Tuesday. Drains pay no attention to the working week, so nor do we.
How do I book?
Ring (02) 9073 7959 and describe what the drain is doing. Nothing needs filling in online beforehand, and the time usually gets set during that first conversation.
Why do tree roots block so many Vaucluse drains?
Big old gardens are the short answer. Decades of planting on these generous blocks put deep root systems beside drainage laid in clay or earthenware, and roots work into any joint loosened by age. That is why the same drain closes over again months after a clear.
Why does my drain block again after heavy rain?
The South Head peninsula gets intense coastal downpours, and older stormwater lines here weren't built for that volume. Silt and debris wash down from higher, sloping properties into the lower pipework during a heavy burst, which is where the surcharge tends to show up first.
Who is responsible for a blocked sewer, me or Sydney Water?
Broadly speaking, the drainage sitting within your own boundary is yours to look after, while Sydney Water takes over at the mains. That changeover point differs from block to block, so read this as a rough guide rather than a verdict on your place.
What suburbs do you service?
Vaucluse itself, along with [Rose Bay](/blocked-drains-rose-bay/), [Dover Heights](/blocked-drains-dover-heights/), [Bellevue Hill](/blocked-drains-bellevue-hill/), [Double Bay](/blocked-drains-double-bay/) and [Bondi](/blocked-drains-bondi/). They're all on the peninsula circuit our vans already cover, so nowhere on that list is a special trip.
